Named after one of the four Jovian moons, Io is known for its massive mountains which are formed from violent volcanic activity beneath its crust. You can see 'Steeple Mountain' in the above gallery. It's an irregularly shaped (at least compared to Earth's mountains) jagged edge comparable in height to Mount Everest. Imagine standing on the surface looking up at this towering shard of rock, free of any distinguishing features from the ground beneath you, just an abrupt, steep incline narrowing into a razer sharp peak that looks as though it might slice the stars themselves should one accidently get to close.
