The prints are inspired by the somewhat common personality trait of laughing or joking as a reaction to grief. Sometimes seen as a sign of immaturity, a sign of shock or an outright rejection of the reality someone has been suddenly confronted with, however I largely disagree with each of these assertions. I don't deny that there are instances where each of the aforementioned explanations hold true, but I tend to believe that in many cases, these atypical responses are part of a larger acceptance of the apparent randomness of the world in which we life, and how absurd our often hypocritical cultural expectations in such a world seem to be. And to me at least, that's worth a laugh.
